Much of what people throw away smells like food to a hungry bear. Once bears learn where it is easy to get at garbage, they'll come back again and again. Most conflicts between people and bears can be traced to easy-to-get human food, garbage, pet food, bird seed or other attractants. When people allow bears to find and eat human sources of food, a bear's natural drive to eat can overcome its wariness of humans.Cordillera regulations prohibit feeding wildlife in anyway whether intentional or not; this includes from trash containers. Cordillera's trash regulations aim to prevent bears from using trash as a food source and creating potentially dangerous encounters between bears and humans. Please place trash in trash containers or dumpsters and secure the lid. Trash may only be placed curbside the day of trash pick up. When using the trash and recycling facility at the community operations building, do not place trash next to the dumpster.
