The springtime is a vulnerable time for elk calves and fawn in the early stages of their lives; seasonal trail closures during these critical months give young wildlife the space and time needed to mature to increase their chances of survival.
Cordillera Community Operations in cooperation with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife will temporarily close the following trails April 15 - June 15 for wildlife protection:
Cordillera property owners are asked to avoid trail use during the closures. Hiking, dog walking and mountain biking, as well as all other uses are prohibited during this time.
Cordillera is one of a few developments that has set aside elk migration corridors from the Eagle River to BLM and USFS open space. These corridors provide uninterrupted access for elk, as well as protected calving areas in the spring.
