Open Space Wildfire Hazard Reduction Program

Open Space Wildfire Hazard Reduction Program

In partnership with the US Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, the Cordillera Metropolitan District engages in forest health and wildfire mitigation on open space lands within the community. A five-year plan has been developed that includes fire breaks and fuel load reduction in key locations within and around the property. Dead trees are removed, live trees are limbed up, and ladder fuels are reduced alongside all roadways and many trail alignments. Evacuation routes are maintained, and Cordillera Metro District staff receive special training.
